Welcome to the Yogini Philosopher Blog!

Welcome to the Yogini Philosopher blog where I share posts elucidating yoga philosophy and provide short practices to apply the teachings in your own life. One of the challenges of practicing yoga in today’s world is accessing the depth of what the broader yoga lineage encompasses and finding a way to apply it in your own practice with joy! There are a lot of yoga classes, but there isn’t a lot of support on navigating the breadth of non-asana courses. It is so easy to go to yoga classes for years, and never really make it farther in your practice than asana, ujjayi pranayama, and maybe a concentration practice or two. But, yoga is more than just physical postures. It is more than just breathwork. It is a state of being, a merging with source, a soulful dance with the complexities of self as we evolve ever higher in this non-dual tradition. It is joy and laughter and true medecine. So, join me in exploring the fullness of what yoga is!

From the samkalpa to Savasana, from surya namaskar to svadhyaya, the foundations and subtleties of yoga will be explored in this blog. Beyond just cerebral concepts to ponder, the wisdom of the tradition is in its embodied knowing. And as such, this blog aims to support deepening your practice of yoga beyond mental knowledge, beyond even intellectual discernment but into a robust, life-long self-practice. Don’t have a self practice yet? No worries, we will get you there! This blog aims to support all yoga practitioners to embody the wisdom of yoga so that each breath, each thought, each action aligns with our greatest self. In this way, the intention with which we live holds the greatest attunement for our awareness. The intention of this blog, then, is to support all to evolve to their highest consciousness, to honor the fullness of support and healing this practice offers, to be yoga.

"The intention with which we live holds the greatest attunement for our awareness."

In yoga, the triad of right action is often referenced as Community, Concentration and Consistency. Community - having a tribe, group, sangha with which to explore, discuss, and hone our understanding and practice in a cooperative balance exploring relationship and roles and ego. Concentration - directing your awareness toward a higher intention and building endurance holding your focus there and in this way constantly studying the self and moving toward a higher consciousness. Third, consistency - not just holding the information, the lessons, the insights but applying them repeatedly with discipline and purpose, actively participating in your own evolutionary process. I aim to apply these three components of right action on this website, to provide a platform for our communal evolution and encourage your active participation in this non-judgmental, universal, inclusive and respectful community.

Yoga is not a passive practice. It is a full spectrum exploration of all aspects of life. We do not practice yoga to feel good. Nor to de-stress, although both of those may be effects of a yoga practice on certain days. We do not stop practicing because we are tired or bored or over it. We practice yoga to evolve, to explore the layers of the self and evolve toward realisation knowing that every sensation, every experience is part of our own process and journey. We practice to get over the egoic realm and transcend dichotomy. We practice to merge with oneness, with source, with life.

So as you read, I encourage you to engage with the video and audio practices as well as the words. Move from mastering poses to mastering actions and habits to mastering thoughts through an applied daily practice. These tools have helped me in my own life navigate overwhelm, grief and loss, international moves, career changes, burn out, and more and I am excited to share these teachings with all of you. I have been practicing yoga for over 16 years, have a 500hr RYT and YACEP certification and most importantly am passionate about what yoga offers us. Knowing is a constant journey of study, but sharing knowledge provides riches beyond measure through relating both to oneself and to others. So thanks for listening as I share the beauty of yoga as I have learned it and providing opportunities to continue to grow.

Feel free to save a post to your favorites, subscribe to receive my newsletter and stay in touch with questions and comments so that we can all grow together. Please utilise the video or audio practices that I share with each post to deepen your embodied awareness and experience of yoga. A technique is only useful when applied, but apply it while listening to the wisdom of your inner teacher.

Om paramatmane namah!

I bow to the wisdom within all beings.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to connecting with you on the path. Love and love and love,

Sarah
